Palos Verdes' Point Vicente lighthouse is one of the more historic landmarks on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Almost a century old, the lighthouse in the Palos Verdes Point Vicente area was first brought on to help guide ships away from the shore, with its incredibly powerful light, and fog horn. Though the lighthouse is only 67 feet tall, its light is about 185 feet above the ocean because of the cliff it lies on. After World War II, the light house keepers actually had to cover its walls which faced Palos Verdes Drive, as it was so blinding. That led to the mythology of the ghost the "Lady of the Light", who Palos Verdes citizens claimed to see walking around the lighthouse at night. Tours are not available, however the light house and a rather small museum are open to the public the second Saturday of each month, from 10am- 3pm. There are plenty of homes nearby the Point Vicente area in Palos Verdes.
